Man carried off Mount Lafayette after knee injury
FRANCONIA — Rescuers had to carry a Lowell, Mass., man off Mount Lafayette Saturday after he fell and suffered a possible fractured knee.
Sgt. Brian Suttmeier from the state Fish and Game Department said Barry Lyons, 53, was hiking alone when the accident happened. Other hikers who happened to be volunteers with Pemigewasset Valley Search and Rescue Team came upon the injured man and helped him down the trail until he couldn’t go any further.
They then called for assistance and rescuers from Fish and Game and the Pemigewasset team responded. Suttmeier said they were able to carry Lyons the rest of the way off the mountain on a stretcher and he was taken by ambulance to Littleton Hospital.
