BOW — Coach Matt Guerard has been waiting all spring for his Bedford Bulldogs to deliver a dominant start-to-finish performance.

The wait is over.

“There's been games where we put in a great half, or put in a great three quarters and faltered at the end. But today was just straight 48 minutes,” said Guerard, whose Bulldogs on Monday befuddled Bow, 13-6, in Division II boys' lacrosse.

Bedford's pursuit for perfection continues. The preseason favorite Bulldogs — which clinched the No. 1 tournament seed with the win — improved to 15-0 overall and 13-0 in league action.

Junior attackman Jason Campbell exploited gaps in Bow's defense, and finished with four goals and two assists. Classmate and midfielder David Phelps (three goals, assist) was pure power from the perimeter.

Team defense was equally terrific — and the real reason Guerard's juggernaut rolled.

Bow (11-2 Div. II) controlled faceoffs thanks to Riley Keenan (13-for-20), and ball possession was largely in the Falcons' favor as a result.

Talented snipers Devin Calkins and Dan Crisman finished with three goals apiece. Calkins, however, netted Bow's only goals through three frames. Bedford led, 6-2, after 36 minutes.

“It is frustrating to know we're getting quality possessions, we're getting the ball in our (offensive) end, yet we can't come away with good shots or good looks,” said Bow coach Ross Mondello, who lauded the play of Bedford's defensemen and goaltender Matt Howe (nine saves).

Clay Kirkpatrick, Matt Poremba and Matt Dillon often acted as a wall around Howe.

But Bedford's sophomore stopper still faced his share of sizzling shots. Point-blank denials were his specialty, and several of those saves led to transition goals.

Taylor Wallace's tally to open the scoring was a run-and-gun marker. The first-line midfielder raced untouched down the right sideline and, with his off-hand, rifled a one-hop shot under the stick of Robert Jenkins (eight saves).

Nate Larrivee (two goals, two assists) doubled the lead after a top-of-the-box dodge created separation from standout defenseman Derrick LaBranche.

Bedford's third goal, a Campbell-to-Jared Hornsby connection, capped a three-marker first frame. Howe sparked it seconds earlier with an in-your-face stop at the other end.

“It's a big deal, actually,” Howe said of securing the No. 1 seed. “We beat the other top teams. This one was by a big margin. We came out and played all 48 minutes.”
