Public Works Week recognizes everyday hard workers
MOULTONBOROUGH — The town is recognizing National Public Works Week by hosting an open house at the Highway Garage on Friday.
The open house will be held from 1 to 3 p.m., at 68 Highway Garage Road. The public is invited to stop by, view the facility and equipment, and meet some of the employees.
The town’s Select Board issued a proclamation at its May 17 meeting in honor of the week.
Highway/Road Agent Scott Kinmond, who had served as a police chief before coming on board as highway/road agent, said the public works department has not been appropriately acknowledged as the third leg of the First Responder group to emergencies.
“Public works is there whether it’s a man-made event involving our transportation infrastructure, or Mother Nature weather event with a snow storm, ice storm, hurricane, tornado or flood,” he stated. He said public works is an important part of everyday life — taking care of everything from roadway systems, waste management collection and disposal, to sewer and water system maintenance.
National Public Works Week is May 20 to 26.
