The season is over for a pair of New Hampshire players on the Duke men’s lacrosse team as unranked Maryland upset the No. 3 Blue Devils 16-10 in NCAA semifinals action at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Mass. Saturday.

Sophomores Josh Dionne (Merrimack) and Luke Duprey (Concord) and the rest of the Duke squad fell to 15-5. Dionne scored a goal in the game.

In the other semifinal, top-ranked Loyola Maryland defeated No. 4 Notre Dame 7-5.

Loyola (16-1) and Maryland (12-5) will meet for the NCAA championship Monday at 1 p.m. at Gillette.

The Maryland/Duke game was close thoughout, with the Terrapins pulling away late and holding Duke at bay through the fourth quarter.

Robert Rotanz’ goal at 13:44 of the fourth frame pulled Duke within two at 10-8, but Maryland scored the next six goals over a span of 10:00 to put the game out of reach.

Duke got late goals from Andrew Vekstein and Eddie Loftus to account for the 16-10 final.

Maryland opened the game looking as though it might run away with it, taking a 3-0 lead into the late part of the first quarter.

But Dionne scored his 36th goal of the season with 1:30 remaining and Rotanz tallied a minute later to make it 3-2 after one.

The Terps scored in bunches again to open the second, pulling ahead 7-4 at halftime.

Maryland would extend to a 9-4 lead before Duke began to keep pace, leading to a 10-7 score after three.

Drew Snider scored four goals and Owen Blye added three for Maryland. Duke was led by two each from Rotanz and Justin Turri.

In the first game of the day, Loyola led 7-3 heading into the fourth quarter and then had to hold on as Notre Dame fought back within two goals, but came up just short as Loyola kept the game scoreless over the final 6:00.

Eric Lusby scored five goals and added an assist to lead the way for Loyola. Davis Butts and Josh Hawkins scored the other two Loyola goals.

Notre Dame (13-2) was led by Westy Hopkins with a pair of goals.
