Lebanon hotel robbery brings 3 indictments

HAVERHILL — A Grafton County Superior Court grand jury has indicted a Newport man and woman, along with a Charlestown, Mass., man on two felony charges each that include robbery, threatening and use of force in connection with a Jan. 12 armed robbery at a Lebanon hotel.

Tyler Dodge, 20, of 20 Beech St., Newport, is charged with robbery by threat of force and weapon, and robbery by threat of force at the Baymont Inn & Suites on Airport Road in West Lebanon.

Ashley Hayward, 19, of 10 Dale St., Newport, and Marvin C. Jones, 22, of 451 Main St., Charlestown, Mass., are both charged with being an accomplice to robbery using threat of force, and conspiracy in a robbery using threat of force, in connection with the same alleged incident.

According to the indictments, Dodge and Jones, while masked, entered the side door to the front desk employee work station and “put another in fear of the immediate use of physical force” — a hotel employee — as Jones appeared to have a knife or scissors in his hand.

Jones is accused of pushing and/or striking the clerk while he and Dodge demanded money, and Dodge and/or Jones took money from the hotel cash drawer.

Hayward is accused of participating in the robbery by driving Dodge and Jones to the hotel.

During its May session at the North Haverhill court, the grand jury also handed up the following indictments: Timothy L. Whitcomb, 34, of 2011 Bog Road, Springfield, is accused of aggravated felonious sexual assault — no consent — aggravated felonious sexual assault — use of force — criminal threatening with use of a deadly weapon, criminal mischief and contempt of court by breach of bail conditions.

The contempt of court/breach of conditions charge and two sexual assault charges are alleged to have taken place March 19 in Lebanon. Whitcomb is accused of sexually assaulting a person on that date after violating a court order that he stay at least 300 feet away from the person.

The other two charges are alleged to have taken place March 6 in Lebanon, where Whitcomb is accused of threatening the same victim with a knife, and with damaging a kitchen cabinet that was the property of another person by sticking a knife in the cabinet.

Bryan Sprague, 22, of 365 Owl St., Campton, is charged with first-degree assault with a deadly weapon on April 29 in Plymouth.

Sprague is accused of using a knife to stab Tyler Dowaliby in the abdomen.
