Northwood police station shooting probe continues
NORTHWOOD — Police continue to investigate who shot at the back of the police station — through the window of Chief Glen Drolet’s office — Sunday night.
Drolet said while the office was unoccupied after 11 p.m., when the shooting occurred, an officer was standing in a nearby hallway when the bullet was fired. He added no one was injured as a result of the incident, which police suspect was focused against the department rather than a particular individual.
“It could have been random, but the window they hit was in the back of the building,” Drolet said, adding the shot was fired from a wooded area, rather than from a passerby on 1st N.H. Turnpike, which runs past the front of the station.
“We have some leads, but we’re looking into them,” Drolet said, adding police have not received any written or verbal threats or have been involved in an incident that appears to be connected to the shooting.
Drolet said police recovered the bullet and determined it was fired from a handgun. The bullet was sent to the state lab for testing, but he was not sure how long it would take to receive the results.
He said the town is looking into improving security at the station, but police will continue to serve and safeguard the town professionally.
“You can’t let it affect how you do your job,” Drolet said.
Anyone with information about the incident should contact Northwood Police at 942-8284 or State Police at 679-3333.
