Instead of athletes playing games on the field Saturday, it was Mother Nature playing games with the schedule.
On what is typically the busiest playoff day of the year for the NHIAA, rain drenched fields and diamonds across the state, causing all but one of 43 events to be postponed and leaving adminstrators scrambling to put the pieces together so tournaments can resume and champions crowned.
Most of the games originally scheduled for Saturday have been moved to today, with a few happening on Monday.
In the one game that was played, second-seeded Colebrook beat No. 10 Littleton, 3-1, in the Division IV softball quarterfinals.
Track
The one championship that was supposed to happen Saturday, the track & field Meet of Champions, will now happen today at 2:30 p.m. at Londonderry High School.
Lacrosse
There are eight semifinal boys' and girls' lacrosse games that have been rescheduled for today. They are the boys' Division II and III and the girls' Division I and II matches.
The boys' Division II games will be played at Exeter High School with St. Thomas Aquinas of Dover taking on Bow at 4 p.m. and Bedford playing Portsmouth at 6 p.m. The Division III games will be held at Stellos Stadium in Nashua with Hollis/Brookline against Plymouth at 5 p.m. and Derryfield of Manchester playing Pelham at 7 p.m.
The boys' Division I semifinals will go on as scheduled at Bedford High School. Hanover will play Londonderry at 5 p.m. and Pinkerton of Derry plays Bishop Guertin of Nashua at 7 p.m.
On the girls' side, all four games will still be at Southern New Hampshire University in Manchester. The Division II games will have Bishop Guertin against Portsmouth at noon and Bedford against Merrimack at 2 p.m. In Division I, Souhegan plays Londonderry at 4 p.m. and Exeter plays Concord at 6 p.m.
Because of those changes, the Division III semifinals have been moved to Monday with Plymouth playing Kearsarge of North Sutton at 5 p.m. and Windham playing Hopkinton at 7 p.m. at Southern New Hampshire University. The Division I and II finals will now be played on Tuesday at 5 and 7 p.m.
Baseball
All the Division I quarterfinals have been moved to today at 4 p.m. at the home of the higher seed.
Trinity of Manchester will play at Concord, Timberlane of Plaistow will play Manchester Memorial at Gill Stadium, Exeter is at Merrimack and Bishop Guertin is at Nashua North.
In Division II, all four games are today.
Pembroke plays at St. Thomas Aquinas at 2 p.m., Bedford and Goffstown play at 4 p.m. at St. Anselm College, Kingswood of Wolfeboro is at Lebabon at 1:30 p.m. and Merrimack Valley of Penacook is at Portsmouth at 4 p.m.
All of the Division III games have been moved to today at 4 p.m. at the home of the higher seed.
Franklin is at Hopkinton, Bow is at Conant of Jafrey, Prospect Mountain of Alton is at Monadnock of Swanzey and Somersworth plays at Campbell of Litchfield.
Three of the four quarterfinals in Division IV were changed to today and one will be played on Monday.
Scheduled for today, Newmarket is at Gorham at 4 p.m., Wilton-Lyndeborough is at Sunapee at 4 p.m. and Pittsfield goes to Colebrook at 1 p.m.
On Monday, Portsmouth Christian of Dover will host Lisbon at 4 p.m.
Softball
All four Division I games have been changed to today at the home of the higher seed.
Dover is at Salem at 4 p.m., Exeter is at Merrimack at 1 p.m., Concord is at Alvirne at 11 a.m. and Winnacunnet is at Londonderry at 1 p.m.
Two of the Division II games were rescheduled to today and two for Monday.
The two games today are, Bedford at Portsmouth at 1 p.m., which will be played at Alumni-Wentworth Field. And ConVal of Peterborough is at Merrimack Valley at 1:30 p.m.
The two games on Monday are Windham at Souhegan at 4 p.m. and Milford at Kennett at 3 p.m.
All four Division III games were moved to today at the home of the higher seed.
Bow is at Campbell at 4 p.m., Somersworth is at White Mountains of Whitefield at 2 p.m., Farmington is at Gilford at 4 p.m. and Franklin is at Stevens of Claremont at 4 p.m.
Three games in Division IV have been moved to today.
Groveton is at Wilton-Lyndeborough at 1:30 p.m., Moultonborough Academy is at Profile of Bethlehem at 6 p.m. and Woodsville is at Portsmouth Christian of Dover at 1 p.m.
Tennis
The individual tennis tournaments will take place today starting at 9 a.m. The girls will play at Pinkerton and the boys will play at Derryfield at SNHU. The final four competitors in both tournaments will advanced to Tuesday's semifinals at Derryfield School.
The postponement forced the doubles tournaments to be pushed back to an undetermined date.
