Bike Week attracts celebrity tattoo artists
LACONIA — Celebrity tattoo artists from around the country will be coming to the Lake Opechee Inn and Spa Conference Center during Bike Week for the city’s first major tattoo event.
Amy Nicoletto, a celebrity tattoo artist, Tattoo Tony and Laura Lynn, tattoo spokesman, will be among those attending the East Coast Tattour 2012 June 13-16.
Other venues for the tour, which kicks off the year here, are in Gettysburg, Pa., York, Pa., Cocoa, Fla., Lake George, N.Y. and Myrtle Beach, S.C.
There will be tattoo contests, concerts, an outdoor beer garden overlooking Lake Opechee, entertainment and more than 50 tattoo artists with booths offering tattoos and piercings inside the conference center, as well as ink vendors and suppliers.
Michelle DuPont, owner and innkeeper, said she believes the event will complement Bike Week, one of the nation’s largest bike rallies, which begins June 9 and runs for a week, ending on Father’s Day, June 16.
“Since we have never done this, we have no idea how many people to expect,” she said of the tattoo event. The promoter is JOA Event Designs of Burlington, Conn. The hope is that it will become an annual event, DuPont said.
Each artist needs to be licensed by the state to be a participant and there will be oversight by the state Department of Health and Human Services.
The tattoo event begins at 6 p.m. Wednesday, June 13, and will go through midnight.
On Thursday and Friday, the hours are noon to 11 p.m., on Saturday from noon to 10 p.m.
There will be a Fusion Art piece in which participants add to the piece and two pieces will be auctioned off to benefit the Norris Cotton Cancer Center and Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon.
