Girl, 9, injured when truck with father driving crashes into tree in Deerfield
DEERFIELD— A Rochester man with two previous DWI convictions in New Hampshire is behind bars after police said he crashed his truck while driving drunk, causing severe injuries to his 9-year-old daughter.
Bradford Gannon, 29, was out on bail on a DWI charge in Maine. According to a news release from Deerfield police, a single-vehicle crash on State Route 107 near Deerfield Community School Department was reported at 9:12 p.m. Sunday.
Makaliah Waterhouse was trapped in the passenger seat of the 2002 Chevrolet K1500 pickup for 30 minutes while she was being extricated.
She was taken to Elliot Hospital with several facial fractures and internal injuries and then transferred to Children’s Hospital Boston, where a hospital spokesman said Monday that the girl was in fair condition.
According to court documents, Gannon received a breath test on the scene and registered a breath alcohol content of 0.093.
Gannon was arrested at Elliot Hospital for felony DWI third offense.
He was arraigned Monday in Candia District Court and was being held at the Rockingham County Jail on $10,000 cash bail.
According to court documents, Gannon told police he had swerved out of the way of a deer, which is when the truck crashed into the tree.
If he is released on bail, the Candia District Court has ordered that he may not possess a firearm, destructive device, dangerous weapon or ammunition, he must refrain from any alcohol or narcotic drug usage and cannot drive until his license has been restored.
