Buchholz, Sox shut out Orioles, 7-0
BOSTON - Clay Buchholz threw a four-hit shutout and the Boston Red Sox snapped a three-game losing streak with a 7-0 win over the Baltimore Orioles on Thursday night.
Adrian Gonzalez had three hits and two RBIs to help the Red Sox halt a string of seven consecutive home losses to Baltimore and move back above .500 at 29-28.
Buchholz (6-2) scattered four hits and struck out six for his third career shutout - all against the Orioles. He issued his only walk with one out in the ninth.
Daniel Nava had two hits and also drove in two runs for Boston, which built a 6-0 lead after three innings to allow Buchholz to easily win his second straight start.
Orioles starter Brian Matusz (5-6) was wild from the outset, walking five batters and throwing 67 pitches before being yanked after allowing a leadoff single in the third. He was charged with five runs on four hits.
The Red Sox scored two runs in each of the first three innings, getting a two-run double from Gonzalez in the first and a two-run single from Nava in the third.
Orioles reliever Miguel Gonzalez, in his second career appearance, allowed one run on two hits in four innings after taking over for Matusz in the third.
