Squirrels edge Fisher Cats, 3-2
RICHMOND. Va. -- The New Hampshire Fisher Cats rallied in the ninth inning but fell short, dropping a 3-2 decision at Richmond in a rematch of the 2011 Eastern League Championship Series before 4,491 fans Tuesday night.
New Hampshire newcomer Kenen Bailli, called up from Single-A Dunedin, doubled home Brian Van Kirk in the ninth inning as the Fisher Cats scored against Richmond closer Brett Bochy, son of Giants manager Bruce Bochy. The Flying Squirrels, however, held on after Brian Bocock popped into a double play and Gabe Jacobo struck out.
Fisher Cats starter Deck McGuire (2-8) pitched five innings, giving up three earned runs and eight hits, including a solo homer by Ehire Adrianza.
Flying Squirrels righty Andy Reichard (1-2) picked up his first Double-A win after working six innings and yielding one run on five hits.
Last-place New Hampshire, which lost its fifth straight, scored in the third inning on Mike McDade’s line drive to left field, plating Ryan Goins.
The Fisher Cats dipped to 22-40, while the Flying Squirrels improved to 30-34.
