Trader Joe's set for Nashua store
Trader Joe's announced grand opening dates for its first two New Hampshire grocery stores, one in Nashua on July 16, the other in Newington/Portsmouth on Sept. 7.
Both stores will be open daily from 8 a.m. until 9 p.m.
The 9,850-square-foot Nashua store will be located in Webster Square Plaza, at 262 Daniel Webster Highway, and will replace the store in Tyngsborough, Mass. The 11,700-square-foot Newington location will be at 45 Gosling Road, inside The Crossings at Fox Run Mall.
According to the Monrovia, California-based company, Trader Joe's introduces about a dozen new items every week, with buyers traveling around the world in search of unusual products.
“We're excited,” Alison Mochizuki, spokesperson for Trader Joe's, said at the time of the announcement several months ago. “We look forward to becoming part of the neighborhood.”
The new Nashua store will be larger than the current location and will offer wine, Mochizuki has said. The Tyngsborough location does not carry beer or wine.
Carol Lyle, who lives in the Manchester area, said she shops at Trader Joe's in Tyngsborough with her daughter for the store's large organic selections.
Bob Sampson of Nashua said he chooses Trader Joe's for its quality and the broad selection of food items.
“It's healthy food at an affordable price,” Sampson said.
Trader Joe's offers more than 1,000 items under the Trader Joe's private label, including an array of domestic and imported foods and beverages. These include fresh baked artisan breads, Arabica bean coffees, frozen entrées, juices, fresh nuts, deli items, milk and eggs, in addition to and vitamins and supplements.
The company also carries beer and wine, and claims to appeal to the culinary adventurer and microwave aficionado.
Trader Joe's began in 1958 in the Los Angeles area as a small chain of convenience stores called Pronto Markets. In 1967, the name was changed to Trader Joe's. The chain now operates 366 stores across the country, including 17 in Massachusetts. Since then Trader Joe's has expanded to more than 370 stores in 32 states.
