Two girls seriously injured in ATV accident in Danville

DANVILLE — Two female juveniles were injured Saturday night in an ATV crash.

State Fish and Game conservation officers were called at 7:15 p.m. to investigate a single, 4-wheeled ATV crash involving two female juveniles, ages 11 and 15.

Officers said the 15 year old was driving the ATV, while the 11 year old was a passenger. The identities of both were not released.

Evidence at the scene indicated the ATV struck a tree that was only a foot off trail, officers said.

Neither juvenile was wearing a helmet.

Fish and Game officers said the 11 year old was flown via helicopter to Children's Hospital Boston with serious injuries, while the 15 year old was transported to Parkland Medical Center in Derry.

Conservation Officer Michael Matson said significant injuries could have been avoided had both juveniles been wearing helmets, and that the crash may have been caused by inexperience in operating an ATV and distracted driving.
