Dover opens cooling station due to heat

DOVER — Due to the excessive heat, the City of Dover has opened a cooling center to residents seeking relief from the heat. The cooling center is located in the McConnell Center cafeteria. It will remain open until 8 tonight.

The cooling center will also be available on Thursday until 4 p.m.

Residents should enter the McConnell Center using Door No. 7 on the St. Thomas Street side of the building. Additional cooling stations will open, if needed.

The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for Wednesday and Thursday.

The combination of heat and high humidity can put people at risk of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.

The National Weather Service recommends wearing light-weight, loose-fitting clothing when possible, drinking plenty of water, staying in an air-conditioned environment and avoiding prolonged exposure to the sun.
