DERRY - Fire heavily damaged a home at 4 Orchard Drive Wednesday afternoon, leaving a family of four temporarily homeless.

Firefighters, assisted by personnel and equipment from five surrounding communities, battled flames in 90-degree heat. The fire, reported just after 1 p.m., was under control about a half-hour later.

Fire officials said three Derry firefighters were taken to a local hospital for evaluation and treatment of injuries described as non-life threatening and then released.

No civilians were injured.

Fire crews used multiple hand lines to put out flames on all three floors as well as in the attic.

All the floors and the roof were heavily damaged, according to a press release.

The three-story, wood frame home is owned by John and Gina Kenney, according to the Eagle-Tribune.

Fire crews from Londonderry, Auburn, Windham, Hampstead and Chester helped battle the blaze. Derry police were also on the scene as was the Salvation Army.

Firefighters from Londonderry, Manchester, Litchfield and Salem covered the stations and responded to multiple other calls during the incident.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
