Truck accident snarls I-89 traffic in Sutton
SUTTON — A tractor-trailer accident caused major traffic problems in the southbound lane of Interstate 89 at about 10:30 a.m. Monday, according to the Department of Transportation.
There were no immediate reports of injuries. New Hampshire State police investigators did not release details of the accident Monday.
The DOT issued a warning to drivers of a “serious accident” at the scene, and advised drivers to use extreme caution.
The accident initially closed the left lane of the highway near mile 26, as the truck had gone through a large section of guardrail and dropped down to a wooded area between the north and south bound lanes.
Both lanes of the highway were closed for a time as rescue workers cleared debris and eventually removed the damaged truck.
At 4 p.m., a large group of state highway workers kept a section of the lane closed as they continued to repair the stretch of guardrail heavily damaged by the crash.
