Concord officers cleared in shooting of man with hatchet
CONCORD - The New Hampshire Attorney General's office has ruled Concord police officers were justified in using deadly force on a man who charged them with a hatchet.
Attorney Michael Delaney released the final report on the investigation Wednesday morning.
Delaney says investigators concluded the officers felt legitimately threatened when Wayne Martin Jr. charged out of his apartment after a standoff on March 2, 2011.
Martin was carrying a hatchet that police say he had used to hack at the door from the inside of his apartment during repeated states of delusional ranting.
Martin had a history of mental issues was under court order to take medication, which his doctor said he had failed to take the day before the shooting.
Investigators concluded officers James Fallon and Craig Levesque were justified in the shooting.
