Lancaster fire was minor, but radio station still silent
Fire broke out Tuesday just before 7:30 p.m. at the building that houses WXXS KISS 102.3 FM, according to Lancaster Capt. Steven Jones, who said there were no injuries.
No one was in the building at the time.
The damage was confined to an outside wall of the building, near Shaw's supermarket downtown.
Nevertheless, the radio station was forced off the air and was not broadcasting Wednesday morning.
'They're not in operation, right now,' Jones said Wednesday. 'There were some electrical wires there and we had to cut power to the building,' he said.
The cause of the fire was undetermined Wednesday, according to Jones, who said the incident was not suspicious.
In addition to Lancaster, fire departments from Dalton, Jefferson, Whitefield, Groveton and Lunenburg, Vt., responded, and firefighters cleared the scene by 10:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jones said.
Radio station personnel could not be reached Wednesday.
