NASHUA - A man who barricaded himself inside a Dane Street home for hours in a standoff with police was found dead just after 1:30 a.m. Thursday, according to authorities.

A robot sent into the 2 Dane St. residence found the body of the man, police said. His name has not been released nor have police said how he died.

The standoff began about 5:30 p.m. Wednesday when the house was surrounded by the police department's SWAT team. Police said the man was a suspect in a robbery and considered armed and dangerous.

As a result, residents of the quiet South Nashua neighborhood were evacuated by police.

Eric J. White, who lives directly across the street, said Nashua police initially came to his door about 5:30 p.m. and told him and his wife to go to their cellar as a “safety precaution.”

Police returned about an hour later.

“They came back yelling, 'You can go back to the far end of your yard, jump the fence and get out',” said White of 21 East Dunstable St. who followed their instructions.

White said police barricaded the neighborhood and surrounded a brown house at the corner of Dane and East Dunstable streets.

White, who owns a plumbing and heating company, said officers were using his work truck to take cover.

“He (the occupant) is not answering them. We hear the (police) calling him over the bullhorn,” White said.

White said the man who lives in the house is “actually a super nice guy.” He lives alone.

According to city tax records, the ranch-style home is owned by Franklin and Margaret M. Lucke of 12 Ashley Drive, Milford.
