Sea Dogs edge Fisher Cats, 4-3
Peter Hissey’s sacrifice fly in the home sixth proved to be the difference as the Sea Dogs defeated New Hampshire 4-3 in an Eastern League baseball contest last night at Hadlock Field in Portland, Maine.
The game was tied 3-3 when Portland’s Dan Butler opened the sixth inning with a double. Butler advanced to third base on a fly out to center by Derrik Gibson and scored on Hissey’s sacrifice fly to center.
Relievers Jason Urquidez (1-0), who had a blown save, and Aaron Kurcz (save) shut down the Fisher Cats over the last three innings.
New Hampshire trailed 3-0 before getting two runs back in the fifth inning on a double by Brian Bocock and a single from Mark Sobolewski. New Hampshire tied the game in the sixth inning off Urquidez when Brad Glenn clouted his eighth homer of the season.
Portland reached losing starting pitcher Yohan Pino (4-3) for three runs in the third inning. Bryce Brentz had a two-run double and Jackie Bradley had a run-producing single. Ryan Goins and Sean Ochinko each had two hits for the Fisher Cats, who out-hit the Sea Dogs, 9-6. The teams conclude their series Friday at 7 p.m. before New Hampshire opens a four-game series in Reading on Saturday.
