MANCHESTER — Andrea Brode, one of several former St. John International University employees who have filed wage claims against it, said the school's attorneys agreed to a settlement last week.

'”I agreed to a settlement with stipulations,” Brode, who lives in Walpole, said in a telephone interview.

“I put a deadline on receipt of any payment,” she said. The school has agreed to pay her by July 9 for wages owed for work she performed in New Hampshire to build relationships with American schools from Jan. 1 to Feb. 13 of this year.

The school has a campus in Turino, Italy.

Calls to the office of attorney James J. Bianco Jr., who represents the school, were not returned.

“My understanding is there are ongoing fiscal difficulties with St. John,” Brode said.

A hearing at the state Labor Department that had been scheduled for June 25, was canceled after the settlement, Brode said.

She did not disclose financial terms of the settlement.

Joan Epro, another former SJIU employee, associate dean for curriculum, said she also reached a settlement with SJIU that is due to be paid July 9.

Another ex-employee, Anne Blake, said she has also filed a claim with the state Department of Labor but a hearing hasn't been set yet.
