Town gets ready to celebrate America and paint the sky

DERRY — The skies will light up over Derry on July 4th thanks to the Parks and Recreation Department's annual fireworks display.

The fireworks will begin after dusk, at approximately 9 p.m.

“Similar to past years, the best viewing locations will be along Tsienneto Road, Folsom Road, Crystal Avenue, and Hood Commons,” said Craig Yonge of the Parks and Recreation Department. “In the case of inclement weather, the fireworks display will be moved to Thursday, July 5, at the same time and location.”

In conjunction with the fireworks display, the Derry Farmers Market will run as regularly scheduled from 3 to 7 p.m. in the parking lot of the Derry Municipal Building at 14 Manning Street.

Throughout the day, Yonge said there will also be activities at many of the town parks, including Hood Park at 4 Rollins St., Don Ball Park and Splash Pad at 14 Humphrey Road, and Gallien's Town Beach at 39 Pond Road.

“These parks will be open as regularly scheduled for Fourth of July activities and events,” he said.

The Parks and Recreation Department is hosting a variety of patriotic events throughout the week in addition to the fireworks.

Today, the department holds its annual Happy Birthday America Parade at Hood Park, where participants are encouraged to dress in red, white and blue, sing patriotic songs, and enjoy some birthday cake.

There will also be special patriotic crafts and story times for kids at Hood Park through the end of the week.

More information about the events can be found on the Parks and Recreation Department's website at derry-nh.org.
