9:02 p.m.: :Fisher Cats starter Chad Jenkins was relieved by lefty Matt Wright in the seventh inning. Jenkins, on the hook for the loss, gave up six runs on 13 hits, including a homer by Drew Hedman. Portland has a 6-5 lead in the top of the seventh.
8:55 p.m.: :Ellsbury is now 1-for-4 against Fisher Cats starter Chad Jenkins, and Crawford is 2-for-4 after reaching on a bad-hop base hit in the sixth inning that pushed ahead the Sea Dogs, 6-5.
8:47 p.m.: :Top 5: Scoreless inning for both Portland. The Sea Dogs took a 5-3 lead to the frame's home half.
Bot 5: John Tolisano smacked a first-pitch solo home run to right field. Fishers cut their deficit to 5-4. Mark Sobolewski cleared the left-field wall with two outs, tying the game at 5-5.
8:12 p.m.: Ellsbury returned to Manchester for the first time since 2007, the year in which he nearly became World Series MVP. As rising star with the Sea Dogs, Ellsbury had a double and two triples in his first game at Manchester in April 2007.
Ellsbury, who ripped a first-pitch single off Chad Jenkins in the fourth inning, put on a show during batting practice, sending a half-dozen balls over the right-field wall.
“That right there,” said an American League scout, “is what an All-Star big leaguer looks like during batting practice.”
7:58 p.m.: :Bottom 3: John Tolisano scored from third to snap a 2-2 tie, touching home on a throwing error. Fishers lead, 3-2.
Top 3: Carl Crawford led off by sharply lining a 1-0 pitch to right field for a single.
He moved to second on Jackie Bradley Jr.'s single through the second-base hole, and advanced to third on a deep fly ball to center. But he was stranded at third.
7:28 p.m.: :Kenen Bailli doubled over Ellsbury's head in deep center for a game-tying double. Bailli then scored on an infield hit by Mark Sobolewski. New Hampshire leads, 2-1, after one inning.
7:21 p.m.: Jacoby Ellsbury and Carl Crawford were the first batters Fisher Cats starter Chad Jenkins faced in the series opener with Portland.
Ellsbury received a loud ovation when he stepped to the plate. Ellsbury took a called strike to start the game. After taking a ball, he lofted a fly ball to left fielder Brian Van Kirk.
Crawford followed the same pattern as his Red Sox teammate. He lofted a 1-1 pitch for a weak fly ball to left field.
Jenkins then allowed three straight hits with two outs. Sea Dogs lead, 1-0.
