Driver and victims identified in Hampton Beach pedestrian accident
HAMPTON - Police have identified the three pedestrians struck and injured by a car that plowed across a busy sidewalk at Hampton Beach on Monday, they have also identified the driver and passenger in that car.
Police said Yvan Lafont, 49 of Dracut, Mass., was driving a 1994 Ford Escort north on Ocean Boulevard when he lost control and sideswiped a vehicle parked in the loading zone.
Lafont continued north and struck a second vehicle that was in traffic, police said.
After hitting the second car, police said Lafont's car veered toward the Hampton Beach Casino Ballroom complex and went onto the sidewalk, striking three pedestrians and two steel support columns attached to the Casino.
The pedestrians were identified as Jaques Veilleux, 73 of Beaucevill, Quebec; Anthony Guidice, 20, of Nashua; and Kimberly Caron, 19, of Lynn, Mass. They were transported to Portsmouth Regional Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Lafont also received non-life-threatening injuries. His passenger, Lucilley Dinsmore, 60, of Lowell, Mass., suffered serious internal injuries and was transferred from Exeter Hospital to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston.
Police said the cause of the accident remains under investigation.
