Homeowner controls Dover fire with garden hose

DOVER — A quick-thinking homeowner likely prevented a fire at his home from becoming worse, Fire Capt. John Cunningham said.

Cunningham said a fire broke out in a play room of a home at 56 Forest St. about 10:45 p.m. Friday. He said the home’s owner, whose name was not available, sprayed the small blaze down with a garden hose until firefighters arrived.

“He did a pretty good job knocking it down with that garden hose,” Cunningham said.

The fire’s cause is under investigation, though it appears to be accidental, he said. There were no injuries in the fire, which was contained to the one room, and the home’s occupants — two adults and two children — were allowed back into the home about two hours after the fire started, Cunningham said.
