Stalker facing six months in prison
BRENTWOOD — Probation officials are recommending that a Danville man serve six months in state prison and undergo sex offender treatment after allegedly violating probation for a second time.
Robert Slye, 30, will appear before a judge on July 30 for a probation violation hearing in Rockingham County Superior Court stemming from his latest arrest two months ago.
Slye was taken into custody on May 10, after admitting to officials that he was going online and contacting young men through social networking sites despite a judge’s order not to do so.
It will be left up to a judge whether to follow the probation department’s recommendation.
A judge barred Slye from using in the Internet following his August 2010 stalking convictions for repeatedly communicating with another man online and harassing another man following a road rage incident.
In one of those cases, Slye posed as a young woman on Facebook to communicate with a Danville man and solicit photos of him.
Probation officers say Slye was engaging in similar behavior earlier this year, using computer tablets and other devices to get online and communicate with young men. Slye adopted several female aliases on Facebook and Twitter to contact the young men and ask them for photographs, according to probation officials.
The men Slye was contacting online included several students from Timberlane High School, court records say.
Probation officials seized a binder from Slye’s car that had a list of more than 70 young men, including their Twitter handles, their location and their school grade. Slye was attempting to communicate with teenage boys between the ages of 15 and 18, court records say.
Slye — who was barred by a judge from using the Internet — was ordered to serve another six months behind bars in January 2011 for using Facebook and YouTube in defiance of a court order.
He is currently being held without bail.
