Beach at Crystal Lake reopens

MANCHESTER - The public beach at Crystal Lake reopened Wednesday morning after E. coli levels dropped to within safe limits, according to the health department.

The beach closed Tuesday after two water samples revealed elevated levels of the bacteria in the lake.

Officials did not know what caused the spike in the bacteria but said it usually is from duck or bird droppings or human feces, typically young children in diapers.

Health officials said they will continue to take weekly water samples of the lake through Labor Day.
