STRATHAM — “1, 2, 3, truffle,” came the call, and at that moment 590 people unwrapped a Lindor chocolate and ate it, successfully breaking a Guinness World Record for the number of people to simultaneously unwrap a candy.
The official unwrapping took place in a loading area at the Lindt USA headquarters Thursday, part of what the company dubbed “the world's largest chocolate party.”
Jessica Santos has worked at Lindt USA in Stratham for more than a year. She said the chocolate party is indicative of the spirit of the company; the Guinness Record is an added bonus.
“We are world class, so I think it's only fitting that we have a record in the Guinness Book,” Santos said.
The chocolate party was held during the UNWRAPPED: National Conference 2012 for Lindt Chocolate R.S.V.P. consultants.
On hand was Lindt USA President and Chief Executive Officer Thomas Linemayr, who described himself as the “chief entertainment officer.”
“At the end of the day, we are selling chocolate to make people happy, and we have to celebrate happiness,” Linemayr said.
About 1.5 billion truffles are made each year at the Lindt USA factory in Stratham.
Guinness World Record adjudicator Freddie Hoff came from New York City to verify the record and present Lindt USA with an award upon verification.
She said events like this are not just about a world record, but about people coming together.
“Everybody has what it takes to become a Guinness World Record holder,” Hoff said.
