Will Latimer, Brock Huntzinger and Josh Fields combined on a four-hitter as the Portland Sea Dogs handed the New Hampshire Fisher Cats a 4-2 loss in an Eastern League contest Thursday night at Hadlock Field in Portland, Maine.

The loss sends the Fisher Cats (36-54) to the basement of the Eastern League standings, trading places with the 37-54 Sea Dogs.

Portland grabbed a 3-0 first-inning lead. Jackie Bradley walked and trotted to the plate when Jeremy Hazelbaker banged his 10th home run of the season to center field. Portland added its last run when Marquez Smith walked and scored on a two-out double from Dan Butler. It was Butler’s 11th double of the season.

New Hampshire scored its first run in the third inning. Brian Van Kirk walked and took third on a double by Kevin Howard. Van Kirk was called out at home trying to score on a grounder by Brian Bocock.

But Portland third baseman Marquez Smith fired to catcher Dan Butler to cut down Van Kirk at the plate. Howard took third base on the play and scored when John Tolisano grounded out to shortstop Derrik Gibson.

Mike McDade made it a 3-2 game in the seventh inning when he launched a solo homer, his 14th of the campaign.

Portland got an insurance run in the eighth inning when Smith drilled his first homer of the season to left field.

Latimer started and lasted four innings for Portland, allowing one hit, one run with two walks and five strikeouts.

Huntzinger (3-4) took the win, giving up two hits and one run in three innings. He struck out three.

Fields struck out two in two innings to pick up his sixth save.

John Stilson (2-2) took the loss. He settled down after the first inning. He went five frames, allowing four hits and three walks. He fanned one.

The Toronto Blue Jays announced Thursday they will purchase the contract of Fisher Cats pitcher Aaron Loup on Friday.

When Loup makes his major league debut, he will become the fifth former Fisher Cat to do so this season, and the 57th overall.

Loup, 24, was an Eastern League All-Star, throwing a scoreless inning in this year’s All-Star Game on Wednesday. He earned All-Star status after a strong body of work during the first half of the season, appearing in a league-best 37 games. The Louisiana native sported an 0-3 record, but had a 2.78 ERA over 45.1 innings.

He converted three of his four save attempts and recorded 43 strikeouts.

Loup follows reliever Sam Dyson, who was promoted to Toronto and made his major league debut on July 5. Loup was a ninth-round pick out of Tulane by the Blue Jays in 2009. Pitchers Evan Crawford and Drew Hutchison, and catcher/infielder Yan Gomes have also made their first trek to the major leagues this season.
