RAYMOND — The powerlifting couple of Peter and Nona Hubbard broke more records at the Europa 2012 meet in Hartford, Conn., recently.

Nona Hubbard, 50, lifts in the 50-54 age group, 148 pound division. She competed in the Ironman event and easily won her weight class and division with a bench press of 150 pounds and a personal best and new Revolution Powerlifting Syndicate world record deadlift of 310 pounds.

Nona Hubbard said she had had a “mental block” about 300 pounds in the deadlift she had been fighting for about two years.

Peter Hubbard is 74-years-old and lifts in the 70-74 age group, 181 pound division.

He won his division with a 300-pound bench press, which was also a new world masters record, exceeding the previous record by 25 pounds.

Peter Hubbard said he received a standing ovation from the crowd for the great bench, at 74 years of age.

“Who says you can't get stronger as you get older,” Peter Hubbard said, adding that he had not benched that much in over eight years.
Peter Hubbard said Europa 2012 is the largest fitness show held in New England each year and features bodybuilding, cross fit meets, arm wrestling, grappling, martial arts and powerlifting.

The powerlifting meet attracted 90 lifters from all across the Northeast. Lifters could compete in a full meet which was a squat, bench press and deadlift. They also could elect to do only bench press or the Ironman event, which is bench press and deadlift.

When they are not breaking world powerlifting records, Nona Hubbard serves as the branch manager and vice-president at Citizen's Bank in Raymond. Peter Hubbard recently assumed a new position as a personal trainer and strength coach at Great Bay Sports Center in Newmarket.
