Milton toddler suffers severe burns in Maine fire pit
LEBANON, Maine — A 2-year-old girl from Milton suffered serious burns Sunday morning when she fell into a fire pit at her family’s campsite.
The Lebanon Rescue Department was called to the Flat Rock Bridge Family Resort at 6:28 a.m. Sunday to find the child with severe injuries from the fire pit, according to Assistant Chief Jason Cole. The girl was taken by helicopter to a Boston hospital for treatment, Cole said.
The girl was outside playing when she fell into the fire pit that still had active coals in it from a fire the family had the night before, Cole said.
“When the toddler fell into the fire pit, the family pulled her out and immediately called for help,” he said. “It appears to be just a tragic accident.”
