Fisher Cats snap losing streak with win over Sea Dogs

Ryan Goins drove in three runs to highlight a 13-hit attack and Ryan Tepera, who was just called up from Dunedin earlier in the day, threw a one-hitter over 5-1/3-innings to lead the Fisher Cats to a 5-1 Eastern League win over Portland Sunday.

The victory snapped a five-game losing streak, salvaging the finale of a five-game series at Hadlock Field.

New Hampshire (37-57) took a 2-0 lead when Goins punched a two-out, two-run single right field against Portland starter and losing pitcher Chris Hernandez (4-8).

The Fisher Cats doubled their lead to 4-0 when Joel Galarraga laced a two-run single, scoring Mike McDade and Mark Sobolewski, who had three hits.

Tepera entered the sixth inning with a no-hitter. After a one-out walk, Jackie Bradley Jr. ended Tepera's no-hit and shutout bids with a single to center to score a run. Tepera (3-1) left the game at that point, finishing with six strikeouts.

Goins added an insurance run for New Hampshire in the ninth inning on a fielder's choice to score John Tolisano.

New Hampshire continues its nine-game road trip with a doubleheader at New Britain Monday. Fernando Hernandez (3-6, 4.67) takes the ball in game one (5:35 p.m.) for New Hampshire followed by Chris Jakubauskas (0-1, 3.38) in the nightcap.
