Unemployment rate for New Hampshire rises to 5.1 percent

CONCORD — New Hampshire's unemployment rate for June ticked up 0.1 percent over the previous month but remained below the national average, according to figures released Tuesday.

The seasonally adjusted rate was 5.1 percent in June compared to 5.0 percent in May. The rate in June 2011 was 5.5 percent.

The number of employed residents in June totaled 703,950, 450 fewer than in May but 7,570 more than in June 2011.

The number of unemployed residents totaled 37,850, 1,090 more than May but 2,590 fewer than in June 2011.

From May to June 2012, the total labor force grew by 640 to 741,800, which was 4,980 higher than for June 2011.

Nationally, the seasonally adjusted rate for June was 8.2 percent, unchanged from the May rate and down 0.9 percent from the June 2011 figure.
