10-year-old hospitalized after a man drives mini-van through fence
ROCHESTER — A 10-year-old passerby was hospitalized after a Rochester man drove his mini-van through a wooden fence, spraying debris, police said.
Dana Smith, 63, was driving on South Main Street at the Commons when his Dodge Caravan went off the road, drove onto a sidewalk, crashed through a fence bordering the Commons and caught fire.
The van was impaled by several wooden posts, according to police. A 10-year-old girl walking on the Commons received minor injuries and was taken to Frisbie Memorial Hospital. Smith and his passenger were examined by EMTs, but did not require treatment.
Police are seeking a small Ford with Maine license tags that was apparently involved in the crash.
