Washington Nationals righthander Chien-Ming Wang, currently on a rehab stint with the Harrisburg Senators, faced just 21 batters in 6 1/3 innings of work and the Pennsylvania AA affiliate of the Nats defeated the New Hampshire Fisher Cats, 5-1, in Eastern League baseball action in Harrisburg, Pa., Monday.

Wang, who is on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right hip, was guilty of a second-inning throwing error, and surrendered a fourth-inning double to Mike McDade and a sixth-inning single to Brian Bocock to give New Hampshire its only three base runners during his six-plus shutout innings of work.

The second-year Nationals pitcher and veteran major leaguer struck out six in his second start for Harrisburg.

The Fisher Cats immediately threatened to score in the sixth off reliever Kevin Pucetas, putting two runners aboard with two out, but a force out off the bat of Kenen Bailli ended the threat.

New Hampshire finally put a run on the scoreboard in the eighth when Bocock tripled to center field and crossed on the back end of a double steal with teammate John Tolisano, who had drawn a base on balls.

Harrisburg, which led 3-0 after three innings, salted the game away with a Kris Watts two-run home run in the fourth. The Senators scored one in the first on a sacrifice fly and two more in the third on a throwing error by catcher Sean Ochinko and a run-scoring hit by Destin Hood.

Fisher Cats starting pitcher Deck McGuire (4-11) suffered his second consecutive loss working four innings and giving up all five runs on five hits and five bases on balls. He did not strike out a batter. He gave up eight hits without a strike out and walked four (5 innings) in an 8-0 loss during his last outing against the New Britain Rock Cats last Wednesday.

Kevin Howard added two hits for Eastern Division cellar-dwelling New Hampshire, which managed only five hits in the game and fell to 39-64. Harrisburg is 51-51 and in fourth place in the Western Division standings.

Earlier Monday, in a pair of Fisher Cats roster moves, left-handed pitcher Les Walrond was released while infielder Gabe Jacobo was activated off the disabled list.

The Senators and Fisher Cats play the second of their three-game series tonight.
