Fisher Cats get five in fourth inning, veto Senators
The New Hampshire Fisher Cats avenged Monday’s loss to Harrisburg, defeating the Senators, 7-3, in Eastern League action Tuesday night in Harrisburg, Pa.
A five-run, fourth-inning rally paved the way for the Fisher Cats, who pounded out four extra-base hits in the frame. The win comes after a 5-1 loss at the hands of the Senators (51-52) in the series opener.
Kevin Howard had the big hit for New Hampshire (40-64), knocking in Ryan Goins, who had doubled, and Jake Marisnick, who had been hit by a pitch. Brian Van Kirk doubled in Howard, then scored on a fielding error by Senators third baseman Sean Nicol. Brian Bocock reached on the error, then was doubled in by Koby Clemens.
Goins and Van Kirk each finished with two hits.
New Hampshire added insurance runs in the eighth and ninth. Kenen Bailli drove in Van Kirk, who had doubled in the eighth, while John Tolisano scored on an error in the ninth.
Chad Jenkins (5-9) picked up the win, tossing six innings of three-run ball while striking out three. He allowed seven hits, two of which were home runs to Brian Goodwin and Jimmy Van Ostrand. It was his first victory in a month.
Chris Jakubauskas, Trystan Magnuson, and Sam Dyson teamed up to finish the game with three innings of two-hit, no-run ball.
Ryan Perry (2-3) was tagged with the loss, giving up five runs (three earned) over six innings of work. He struck out five.
The Fisher Cats racked up four hits over Marcos Frias’ two innings of work before he was relieved in favor of Rafael Martin, who pitched a hitless ninth.
The two teams wrap up their series Wednesday at noon before New Hampshire heads to Altoona for a four-game set with the Curve. Ryan Tepera (3-1) takes the mound against Harrisburg starter Paul Demny (6-5).
