Former Exeter technician also worked in Pennsylvania
EXETER — Pennsylvania health officials have confirmed that the former Exeter Hospital worker dubbed the “Serial Infector” who is accused of spreading hepatitis C also worked in that state in recent years, bringing the total number of states where he was employed to at least nine.
The Pennsylvania Department of Health said Wednesday that David Kwiatkowski, 32, worked briefly in Pennsylvania in 2008 and again in 2010.
Kait Gillis, deputy press secretary for the state’s health department, refused to identify the hospital or hospitals where Kwiatkowski worked.
“I am not at liberty to discuss that information. We are investigating the information at hand and if the Department of Health ascertains there is a legitimate public health reason to make that information available, we will notify the appropriate parties,” she said.
Gillis declined to comment further, saying only that Kwiatkowski’s work in Pennsylvania is under investigation and involved “temporary assignments.”
In addition to Pennsylvania and New Hampshire, Kwiatkowski, who was charged last week in connection with the outbreak at Exeter Hospital that infected 30 former patients, is also being investigated in Arizona, Georgia, Kansas, Maryland, Michigan, New York, and Texas.
Kwiatkowski worked in hospitals around the country as a traveling medical technician. He is accused of shooting up the powerful painkiller fentanyl while working at Exeter Hospital and then returning tainted syringes to be used on other patients.
