NH woman dies while hiking in Maine
MOUNT DESERT ISLAND, Maine — Acadia National Park rangers say a New Hampshire woman died after falling while climbing during a hike there Saturday.
Rangers said the 22-year-old woman, whose identity was not released by park officials as of Sunday night, fell 60 feet while hiking a precipice trail up Champlain Mountain, and later died of her injuries.
The portion of the trail she was on at the time of the accident requires hikers to make their way up iron rungs. Hikers that were with the woman called 911 after she fell, and responding emergency personnel carried her more than a mile before she was airlifted to a nearby hospital, where she later died of her injuries.
