Nashua advances to New England Babe Ruth 14-year-old winners' bracket final
Reliever Sam McCarthy picked up the win after Nashua scored three runs in the ninth inning to beat Leominster, Mass., 11-8, in the New England Babe Ruth 14-year-old baseball tournament at Winooski, Vt., on Monday.
Dylan McCord had the big hit in extra innings, a ninth-inning double, and closer J.J. Dunn locked down the victory on 13 pitches in the ninth.
Nashua advanced to the winners' bracket final and faces Pomperaug, Conn., today at 1 p.m.
Lightning suspended the game between Nashua and Leominster on Sunday night.
Action resumed Monday morning in the top of the seventh, with the game tied at 8-8. McCarthy pitched for the second straight day, tossing six innings overall and allowing three hits.
Mike Kernan and Spencer Bergeron each had a pair of doubles. Dunn provided a game-tying sacrifice fly in the seventh inning.
