Fisher Cats lose to Curve in 10 innings

Adalberto Santos’ single in the 10th inning scored Drew Maggi from third base as the host Altoona Curve defeated the visiting New Hampshire Fisher Cats, 3-2, in an Eastern League contest Sunday.

The Fisher Cats (42-67) dropped three of four to the Curve as they return home to face Erie on Tuesday.

Altoona rallied to tie the game in the home ninth off losing reliever Sam Dyson (1-2). Oscar Tejeda singled to start the inning and reached second safely on Ramon Cabrera’s sacrifice bunt.

Jarek Cunningham followed with another sacrifice bunt that Dyson threw away trying to get the force-out. Tejeda scored to tie the game at 2-2.

Koby Clemens gave the Fisher Cats a 1-0 third inning lead with his third homer of the season. The Fisher Cats scratched out another run in the seventh inning.

Brad Glenn singled to open the inning and advanced to second on a walk to John Tolisano. With Brian Bocock batting, Glenn was caught stealing third base as Altoona catcher Ramon Cabrera fired the ball to third baseman Jeremy Farrell.

John Tolisano took second base on the play and reached third when Bocock was safe on a throwing error by shortstop Drew Maggi. Clemens followed and reached on a force attempt as a throwing error from Farrell allowed Tolisano to score. Clemens was credited with his second RBI.

The Curve cut their deficit to 2-1 in the home seventh when Matt Curry belted his ninth homer to begin the inning against New Hampshire starter Chad Jenkins.

The righthander pitched well, lasting 7-1/3 innings, allowing seven hits and one walk with six strikeouts.

Chorye Spoone relieved Jenkins in the eighth inning, inheriting two runners with one out. He got out of the inning on a fielders’ choice that saw Fisher Cats’ third baseman throw home to Clemens in time to tag out Maggi at home. Spoone then got Curry to ground out to end the inning.
