Elliot Health makes 'most wired' list

Elliot Health System has been named one of the nation's “most wired” by Hospitals & Health Networks magazine, which released its 2012 Most Wired Survey in July.

Such hospitals are leveraging the adoption and use of health information technology to improve performance, according to the survey released Monday.

They are expanding and adopting IT that protects patient data and optimizes patient flow and communications.

“Our effort to become fully electronic started over a decade ago, and since then we have integrated most services and physicians throughout the health system,” said Denise Purington, vice president and chief information officer, in a statement.

Elliot Health maintains a single electronic medical record through its system and provides patients with a secure portal to access their medical records, Purington said.

UNH prof's spinoff attracts $1.3 million

A spinoff company based on the research of a University of a New Hampshire mathematic professor has attracted $1.3 million in funding from local angel investors.

Setem Technologies develop signal separation technology that addresses the “cocktail party problem” — focusing on a specific speech source to curb or eliminate extraneous background noise and interference, according to a UNH news release.

The technology, developed by professor Kevin Short, is designed to improve clarity on voice command systems, hearing aids, cell phones and other applications.

Participating investors included the eCoast Angel Network, a small group of angel investors that invest in local companies.

Setem Technologies was created in November 2011 and has licensed the use of Short's patents filed through UNH. Short's previous company, Chaoticom, was the first company spun off from the university.

Liberty has natural gas operations facilities in Nashua, Manchester and Tilton.

The new contract extends into April 2016.

Liberty Utilities is an independent water, natural gas and electric company that has more than 250,000 customers in small and mid-sized communities in the United States.
