DERRY -- Alcohol and speed appear to have been a factor in a Monday evening motorcycle accident that killed a 40-year-old Lawrence, Mass., man.
“At approximately 7:09 p.m., the Derry Police Department responded to a report of a motorcycle crash in the area of 166 North Shore Road,” said Police Capt. Vernon Thomas. “Responding officers observed a 2000 Kawasaki motorcycle lying near the edge of the roadway. The operator, later identified as Ignatius Cimino of 47 Avon St. in Lawrence, had been thrown from the motorcycle and had sustained serious injuries, including severe head trauma.”
Derry firefighters provided medical assistance at the scene and transported Cimino to Parkland Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead as a result of the injuries from the crash. He was not wearing a helmet.
North Shore Road was closed for about five hours as the Derry Police Department’s accident reconstruction team conducted an investigation at the scene.
“Alcohol and speed appear to have been involved in this crash,” said Thomas.
