MANCHESTER — A Sanbornton man could enter no plea Wednesday in Circuit Court-Manchester District Division to three felony charges of sale of controlled drugs stemming from alleged March drug sales in Manchester.

Bail was set at $20,000 cash/surety for Mark Hillhouse, 23, of 296 Knox Mountain Road. A probable cause hearing was set for Aug. 14.

Hillhouse, formerly of Appleton Street, was indicted by the Hillsborough County North Grand Jury in May on a felony charge of possession with intent to distribute oxycodone Dec. 23, 2011, in Manchester.

Pleads ignorance

Bail was set at $50,000 cash-only Wednesday in circuit court for Brandon Kahl, 27, of 43 Manchester St., who declined to waive extradition on a felony charge of being a fugitive from Maine.

At a pre-arraignment session, Kahl told the court clerk he had no idea why he was being sought by Maine.

During his arraignment, police prosecutor Steven Mangone requested the high bail for Kahl, who is wanted for allegedly violating probation on a robbery conviction, saying Kahl is described as having “violent tendencies.”

Bangor, Maine, police said Kahl was indicted on a charge of felony domestic assault in May and was sought in connection with that as well as the probation violation.

Mangone said the fugitive warrant authorized nationwide extradition.

Mangone said Kahl has a criminal record dating back to 2004 that includes violations of bail conditions, release and a protective order, as well as domestic assault and theft.

A hearing on the fugitive charge was set for Aug. 15 in circuit court.

Just off probation

Jason Franklin, 40, of 516 Rimmon St., pleaded innocent to two simple assault charges, telling Judge Gregory Michael that what happened “was nothing more than a physical shoving match.”

Michael responded that something that starts small can escalate and result in serious injury, or even death.

Prosecutor Mangone requested $2,000 cash/surety bail, saying Franklin has prior convictions for battery and theft and was just released from probation.

Michael set bail at $1,000 cash/surety, with conditions of no contact with the victim and not going to the Rimmon Street address.

“That's where I live,” protested Franklin, but the judge told him he needs to find another place to live until the case is resolved.

Trial was set for Oct. 31.

72-hour probation hold>/i>

Bail was set for Jason Wilkins, 32, of 22 School St., Jaffrey, who was arraigned on a felony charge of sexual offender, duty to report.

Judge Michael reminded Wilkins that even if he came up with bail, he couldn't be released until the 72-hour hold was resolved.

Wilkins' most recent conviction was in 2011 for theft. In seeking $5,000 cash/surety bail, prosecutor Mangone cited other convictions, which include assault, violation of bail and probation, trespass, theft by unauthorized taking and sexual assault,.

The judge set bail at the requested amount.

A probable cause hearing was set for Aug. 14.
