New Hampshire native Mike O'Malley is baseball team's star attraction
NASHUA — Television star Mike O'Malley is throwing out the ceremonial first pitch before tonight's Silver Knights game at Holman Stadium.
Before he was starring in shows including “Yes, Dear” and “Glee,” the Nashua native developed a following in his hometown. He's a graduate of Bishop Guertin High School and the University of New Hampshire.
O'Malley was nominated for an Emmy for his portrayal of Burt Hummel in the Fox show Glee and has been writing for Showtime's hit series “Shameless” for three seasons.
The first 500 fans arriving at the game will receive a Mike O'Malley bobble head doll, sponsored by Bishop Guertin High School, to commemorate Mike O'Malley Night.
O'Malley has become a Nashua icon and the team was thrilled to have him, said Jon Goode, vice president of communications.
“We think the world of him and thought he would be a great person to honor,” Goode said.
O'Malley agreed to participate without hesitation, Goode said. He's a Lowell Spinners fan and started following the Nashua Silver Knights when the team was created. O'Malley is expected to stay for the game after throwing out the pitch.
“We're so grateful that he's willing to do this,” Goode said.
First pitch is at 7:05 p.m. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for children and are available by visiting Holman Stadium, calling 718-8883, or visiting NashuaSilverKnights.com.
