Windy Sunday storm knocks out power to 3,000 PSNH customers
A wild rolling rain storm that swept across the state Sunday night knocked out power to approximately 3,000 customers at its peak, according to PSNH spokesman Mike Skelton.
“Compared to last nights' thunderstorm, we have reports that Sunday's storm, that came through the Manchester area about 5-6 p.m., carried wind gusts ranging from 40 to 60 mph,” Skelton said in a telephone interview. “This will cause more tree damage and has impacted outages as a result.”
The storm, which ran from the western part of New Hampshire to the seacoast during a 3-hour window from 4-7 p.m., impacted about 35 communities, Skelton said.
According to the PSNH outage map on its website, fewer than one percent of its customers were affected by the quick, powerful storm.
Skelton said the hardest hit communities were Hampstead with about 700 customers without power, Bradford (400), and Conway (200).
PSNH had crews and trucks out assessing outages in towns and over the next few hours, an Estimated Time of Restoration or ETR would be made available. “We have more than enough resources, trucks and manpower available to address the situations tonight,” Skelton said.
Affected customer can get an ETR by calling the customer service number (800) 662-7764 or via e-mail from the PSNH website. Customer service reps can respond by Facebook and Twitter if post questions and received a response if the information is available to respond with, added Skelton.
“Outages like this result from fallen trees, limbs and lightning strikes,” Skelton said. “Each outage has a different problem and could be a different problem than a tree on a wire. Different damage will impact restoration time based upon the scope of the damage.”
