Hollis grandmother accused of hindering custody
HOLLIS — A grandmother has returned from Connecticut to answer to charges that she interfered with the custody of her 4-year-old grandson.
Hollis police are charging Sandra Thorne, 67, of 10 Watson Road in Durham, with one count of interference with custody, a class B felony. She turned herself in to Hollis police late Friday after waiving extradition to New Hampshire in a Connecticut court on Aug. 2.
Thorne was arrested by Connecticut police after allegedly leaving New Hampshire with her grandson in violation of a court order prohibiting the child from being taken out of state.
The boy’s father, John Testa, received the order after the boy’s mother failed to return with the child on July 30. Testa has temporary custody of the child.
Thorne allegedly left the state with her grandson after the court order was issued. Police found the pair in a hotel in Windsor Locks, Conn., Aug. 1, where Thorne was arrested after refusing to cooperate with police. The child was in good condition and is with his father.
Connecticut authorities charged Thorne with being a fugitive from justice and released her on $50,000 bond with the requirement that she turn herself in to Hollis police by Aug. 3. The investigation continues and additional charges are possible, according to Hollis police.
Thorne was released on $10,000 personal recognizance bail and is scheduled for arraignment Aug. 22, in the 9th Circuit Court, Nashua District Division.
