Search for Milford woman continues

MILFORD — The family of Lorinda White is seeking help from the public to find the 52-year-old woman who walked away from her home at 12 Ford St. Sunday without her cellphone, purse, and possibly even shoes. She hasn't been seen since.

White, who doesn't have a history of mental health problems, had been acting strangely a few days before her disappearance, said her boyfriend, William Pillsbury. On Aug. 3, as he and White were preparing to go to a friend's cookout, White apparently got into Pillsbury's truck without a word and drove away.

“I thought she had gone to the supermarket, but it was strange that she left without kissing me goodbye,” he said.

Several hours later, the owner of a bed and breakfast in Kittery, Maine, called and said that White had been there and seemed confused.

“We had stayed there together a few times,” said Pillsbury, “but I don't know why she went there on that day.”

White returned home at 2 a.m., and Pillsbury said instead of confronting her, he decided to wait to talk to her until the next day when White's family and grown sons were at the house.

“We all wanted to understand what was going on and maybe convince her that she needed to see a doctor,” said Pillsbury. “She doesn't like doctors or hospitals, but we think that based on her behavior, she might have something medical happening.”

While waiting for everyone to arrive, White went out into the garden to do some weeding, and Pillsbury went inside to take a nap, but when he woke up, he found White had disappeared again.

She left the house on foot without a purse or a cellphone.

“We're not sure she was even wearing shoes,” Pillsbury said.

Milford Police issued a press release Tuesday morning asking the public to keep an eye out for White, but thus far, Pillsbury hasn't heard any news. He has been asking friends, neighbors, and now the public to help him search for White, who could be lost in the woods.

She is described as 5-feet-4, 140 pounds, with red hair and blue eyes. She was last seen wearing blue shorts, pink tank top and green baseball cap with her ponytail pulled through.

“We're doing organized searches of the woods in the area,” said Pillsbury. “If she's out there, she's either not in the position to make herself be seen or doesn't want to be seen.”

Capt. Stephen Toom said that anyone with information regarding White's whereabouts may contact Milford Police at 249-3000. Pillsbury said he could also be contacted directly at 721-1125.
