Vacation Bible camp in Hancock will focus on God and nature
HANCOCK — Bethel Church is holding a vacation Bible camp next week that promises a “thrill ride through God’s creation.”
The IncrediWorld Amazement Park Vacation Bible School is scheduled to run from Monday, Aug. 13, through Friday, Aug. 17, from 5 to 8 p.m.
Through games, stories and music, children will be taught about evidence of God in the natural world.
“Basically it’s to teach the children how amazingly God has created everything, including the animals,” said church member Priscilla McQuillan. “We are going to be learning about a lot of unique animals that are really special.”
“It’s games, Bible lessons, crafts and together time with music,” she added.
Bethel Church holds a Bible camp every summer, but this is the first time the church is using this curriculum, which was created by Answers in Genesis, an apologetics —meaning Christianity-defending — ministry.
According to its website, Answers in Genesis is dedicated to enabling Christians to defend their faith and to proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ effectively.
Children typically learn about God in church and nature at school. The IncrediWorld Amazement Park curriculum was designed to teach children about both God and nature together.
“This (time) we are teaching that God created it all. It had to be created by someone. There are too many unique things in the world that could only be created by God,” McQuillan said.
The week-long program is free and includes dinner. All children in the community between age 2 and sixth grade are welcome to sign up and attend the camp.
“It’s just a fun week of getting the kids here and having some fun with them and having Bible lessons while we’re having fun,” McQuillan said.
Bethel Church is located at 53 Elmwood Road. For more information, call Leo McQuillan at 547-0859 or Missy Ageieff at 588-2417.
