Police say man who hit utility pole was texting while driving

ROCHESTER — A local man who was allegedly texting while driving drove into a utility pole, knocking out power to area residents, police said.

Police said Jason Strong, 36, was heading south on Chestnut Hill Road when he drove off the road and hit a pole. The road was closed about 8 hours while crews from Public Service of New Hampshire, Fairpoint and Metrocast worked to restore services, police said.

Strong, who was not injured in the crash, was charged with negligent driving.
