PORTSMOUTH — A Portsmouth psychologist arrested Aug. 7 on charges of prostitution and possession of controlled drugs has had his psychology license suspended by emergency order.
Attorney General Michael A. Delaney said Alexander Marino, Ph.D., 38, of 565 Sagamore Ave., Apt. 4, Portsmouth, was suspended by the N.H. Board of Mental Health Practice.
Marino, who practiced clinical psychology in Exeter and Portsmouth, is facing one misdemeanor charge of prostitution and one charge for allegedly possessing marijuana.
Police said they had been investigating Marino's apartment since October 2011 after a local cab driver tipped them off to suspected illegal activity happening in the apartment.
Police arrested Brooke Parent, 21, of Manchester, on one count of prostitution. Police said Marino allowed his apartment to be used for prostitution “in return for consideration.”
A search warrant executed by police at the apartment turned up two marijuana bongs, a marijuana pipe, five bags of marijuana, $600, baby oil, 21 condoms, two ledgers, a camera and two cell phones.
Delaney said the board issued an order of emergency suspension and notice of hearing, suspending Marino's license immediately. The board has scheduled a hearing for Aug. 27 to determine whether Marino's license will remain suspended during the course of the investigation.
